SOUTH African football giants Mamelodi Sundowns have released pacy winger Kuda Mahachi ahead of the CAF Championship first leg qualifier showdown against neighbours South Africa at Rufaro Stadium on Sunday.

Mahachi was the only foreign based player who joined others at training at Gwanzura on Tuesday.

The match falls outside the Fifa calendar for international matches, which means clubs are not obliged to release players for national duty.

However, with Sundowns embarking on a pre-season tour to Zambia, Pitso Masomene released the Zimbabwean international ahead of the clash against South Africa.

This is the first time Mahachi will be playing for Zimbabwe in these qualifiers as attempts to call him up before have not been heeded because the matches fall outside Fifa calendar for international matches.

Interestingly, he will face South Africa where he is playing his club football.

However, other foreign based players called up – Netherlands based Marvellous Nakamba and Ronald Pfumbidzai who recently signed for Danish topflight league side Hobro IK – are major doubts.

Pfumbidzai who is still in the country is set to leave for pre-season before the weekend while Nakamba is already with his team in Austria for pre-season.

But the major head ache for Pasuwa is the injury to a host of his home based players who featured in league matches at the weekend.

Flame Lily leftback Farai Madhanaga has already been ruled out of the crucial tie because of concussion while Dynamos goalkeeper Tatenda Mukuruva (hip) and Blessing Moyo (hamstring) are still to be assessed further by the team doctor.

FC Platinum’s Marshall Mudehwe has ankle problem while Harare City forward Tino Kadewera has harm string which could force them out of the clash against South Africa.

“I have always said we need to prepare adequately for these matches. South Africa went into camp last week. They are an organized team and now some of the players I have here are injured.

“We have players like Blessing Moyo, Tatenda Mukuruva, Marshal Mudehwe, Tino Kadewera and Farai Madhanaga who has now been ruled out as he has concussion.

“They will be assessed by the doctor,” Pasuwa told reporters after the training session at Gwanzura on Tuesday.

The winner between the two sides joins hosts Senegal and six other African countries at the African Under-23 Championships in Darkar, Senegal in December which will serve as the qualifiers for the 2016 Olympics.

The top three nations at the tournament will automatically qualify for the Olympic Games.
