Twenty-six Zimbabwe Defence Forces instructors were last week awarded certificates after completing a month-long course on quality control and assurance. Speaking at the graduation ceremony, Air Force of Zimbabwe Air Vice Marshal Elson Moyo (Chief-of-Staff: Operations) said the course produced knowledgeable military inspectors abreast with international standards.

“It is my hope that you are now able to perform the seven dimensional tasks expected of instructors,” he said. “Firstly, to monitor the combat readiness of the ZDF. Secondly, conduct all types of inspections, audits and investigations within the ZDF.”

Air Vice Marshal Moyo said the course, co-ordinated by the Standards Association of Zimbabwe, would enable officers to evaluate the sustainability, impact, efficiency and effectiveness of ZDF programmes and interventions as well as carry out inspections under the SADC Standby Force.

“The course was a hybrid tailor made to suit both our local inspectorate mandate and that of the Southern African Development Community. I am glad that it factored in the macro and micro environment demand,” he said.

Major-General Engelbert Rugeje said the ZDF inspector course was the first in the country.

“Military institutions like the Office of the Inspector should be geared with such skills set towards providing means that monitor, conduct, supervise and evaluate defence capabilities to ensure maintenance of a desired level of preparedness in the army,” he said.
