NOLEEN Mutamangira is one woman who is very passionate about rugby. It’s a passion driven by the fact that she is a mother figure to the Sables, who plunge into battle at the Mahamasina Stadium in Madagascar tomorrow, for the epic clash against Kenya in an Africa CupWorld Cup qualifier.

Noleen is the mother of Zimbabwe prop Denford Mutamangira, who is expected to feature prominently in Brendan Dawson’s squad.

She said the Sables were not short of support as millions of Zimbabweans back home will be rallying behind their cause.

The Sables must beat Kenya with a victory that comes with a bonus point in order to qualify for the 2015 World Cup in England.

“We were already standing on tables and ululating but then Namibia stole the moment from us,” she said of the 20-24 defeat at the hands of Namibia on Wednesday.

“However, we have not lost the faith as the boys are playing some good rugby such that a victory against Kenya is certain,” she said.

Noleen said the family was also praying for divine intervention.

“We are excited about the game and cannot wait for it to be played and we are praying that (a win will) be possible,” she said.

Noleen said her love for rugby was boosted when Denford made a breakthrough into Europe, where he plays for Ayr RFC, who are RBS Premiership champions.

Her husband, Kennedy, also closely follows the game while Denford’s little sister Marvellous, who is doing Lower Sixth at Goromonzi, plays in the girls’ rugby team.
