AIR FORCE of Zimbabwe Commander Air Marshal Perrence Shiri lost US$50,000 in a botched bid to install solar power at his Bindura farm, it emerged last week.

Harare resident Tarisai Kambasha appeared before a city court last Thursday accused of fleecing the Airforce boss.

Magistrate Milton Serima postponed the trial to Monday at the request of Shiri who was said to be travelling abroad.

Shiri is said to have contracted Hemmingworth Cartwright (Pvt) Ltd to install a solar power system at his Hopedale Farm in Bindura.

The deal was reached after Kambasha, chief executive of Hemmingworth Cartwright, reportedly approached the security services chief in April 2013.

According to prosecutor Sharon Mashavira, a deal was agreed on June 7, 2013 with Shiri later paying $50,125 in instalments.

However, Kambasha reportedly failed to meet his end of the bargain with just metal stands mounted at the farm.

The court heard that Shiri then approached Kambasha who started to give excuses.

Kambasha also failed to reimburse the money, leading to his arrest on December 12 last year.
