THE ZIMBABWE Handball Federation’s outgoing vice-president, Simbiso Mpepereki, says they hope today’s extraordinary general meeting at Girls High School in Harare will put to rest several issues that prevented them from holding their elections in March.

The meeting was initially scheduled for last Friday but was moved to today after the councillors failed to form a quorum.

And today it’s a different case as outgoing ZHF secretary-general Alphios Magiya on Wednesday said according to their constitution, if a meeting is adjourned to a later date, they don’t need to form a quorum.

The meeting will see the councillors coming up with the date for the rescheduled elections, election procedure and also the presentation of the financial report.

They will also decide on the status quo of three provinces — Harare, Matabeleland North and Matabeleland South.

Mpepereki said they hope to address these issues today and map the way forward to elect a new executive.

“The postponement of the elections is a realisation that other structures that were supposed to vote are not functional.

“The Women in Sport did not have their elections and some other two or three provinces did not have their elections in the period given. This is what we want to talk about tomorrow (today).

“All those sub-committees of the ZHF which are eligible to vote should be put in place so that they exercise their right,” said Mpepereki.

Mpepereki said although the sport is doing well, the failure to hold their elections in March has had some negative impact.

“The state of the sport itself right now is okay it is only this election thing that is standing in-between.

“It has brought in quite some negative developments but I want to remain positive to say whatever hiccups we have, I think those are the ups and downs and we learn from that. We are learning, probably the hard way,” said Mpepereki.

Mpepereki is vying for the president’s post and says if elected into office his focus will be on ensuring that all structures are functional starting at district level to national level.

“I am only contesting for one position that of the president. The position I was holding as vice-president was a very tough assignment because it’s the technical department of the association.”
