Alpha Omega Dairy has stepped up efforts to expand its market share through increased milk production at its Mazowe farm by June this year. Alpha Omega Dairy (Pvt) Limited, is a subsidiary of Gushungo Holdings. The company is producing 12 600 litres per day from 850 cows that are being milked.

In an interview with Herald Business during a tour of the plant last week, general manager Mr Stanley Nhari said the company is looking forward to satisfying the local market through the provision of quality products.

“Our current milk production sits at 12 600 litres per day and we are averaging around 21 litres of milk per cow.

“We also have an additional 600 calves that are reaching maturity and these will add to the 850 that are currently providing milk for the plant,” said Mr Nhari.

The addition would raise milk production to 16 000 litres per day. He said the growing influx of imported dairy products continues to be a threat to the growth of the local dairy industry.

“We believe that we should have been doing better as Alpha Omega and the dairy industry in general. Therefore Government has a lot to do in terms of intervention because a lot of dairy products are being dumped into the country,” he said.

The state-of-the-art plant which has Swedish, Italian and Dutch technology was installed, for production of various dairy products such as fresh milk, ice cream, yoghurt, juices and mineral water. Milking, product making and packaging are done through automated equipment.
