The Agricultural Marketing Authority (AMA) has urged all institutions and individuals intending to buy or process grains and oilseeds during the forthcoming marketing season to register and renew their licences by the end of this month. The marketing season is scheduled to begin 0n April 1, 2015 up to March 31, 2016 as provided by Statutory Instrument 140 of 2013.

In a statement, AMA said late registration will attract a late registration fee.

“The categories of institutions or individuals which are required to register are the commercial millers and stockfeed manufacturers, traders and brokers and grain industry stakeholder associations.

“The authority shall at the time of registration issue a certificate to registered buyers, brokers, processors, traders andor their respective associations upon meeting set requirements and receipt of the prescribed fee,” read the statement.

Two years ago, Government gazetted AMA regulations to guide the production, buying or processing of grains, oilseeds and products to promote the orderly marketing and fair trade practices in grain and oilseed industry.

The regulations sought to bring orderliness in contract farming and encourage many companies to support production of these crops.

The grains include maize, wheat, barley, round nuts, sorghum, millet, sugar beans, cowpeas while oilseeds include soyabeans, sunflower and groundnuts
