A VISUALLY impaired Mutasa man has taken his life after failing to come to terms with results of an HIV test he had just undertaken which revealed he was positive.

Manicaland police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Luxon Chananda, confirmed the now deceased Victor Nyabereka, hanged himself on a roof truss of where was staying.

Nyabereka, 66, of Matiza village, Chief Mutasa recently went for HIV testing and counselling and tested positive.

Since then, he reportedly had some suicidal tendencies.

On the day in question, Chananda said the now deceased Nyabereka who was staying with his wife Simbiso Nyabereka, 59, retired to bed since he was living in a separate bedroom.

Simbiso reportedly followed her husband to his bedroom but found the door locked from inside.

She tried to open the door but failed and called neighbours who forcibly opened the door using an iron bar.

“After opening the door they found Nyabereka’s body hanging from the roof truss,” said Chananda.

Police attributed the suicide to depression.

“People should receive adequate counselling so that they will able to accept their status. Suicide is not the solution to life challenges,” said Chananda.
