Army side Buffaloes collected their first set of three points at home after beating an expensively assembled Harare City 2-1 in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match at Sakubva yesterday.

Buffaloes came into the match under pressure to collect maximum points in front of their fans and they delivered through Chipinge-born and bred star Lloyd Katongomara who hit the net in the 35th minute before Admire Dzumbunu added the home side’s aantage in the 62nd minute.

The army side however escaped the visitors’ late onslaught after Crispen Dickson scored from a free-kick to beat Blessing Mwandimutsira in goals for the army side in the 81st minute.

Buffaloes head coach Joseph Takaringofa was ecstatic and said he was hoping to win every home match in the upcoming fixtures.

“We needed the win at all cost and we finally achieved it at home. The boys played well in previous matches but we were just unlucky not to win matches,” he said.

His counterpart Taurai Mangwiro said his team managed to put up a good fight but they lost the match because of poor marking.

“I think the players managed to give a good fight but we lost it on tight marking. We were not good on tight marking that is where we lost the match but the second half was fine,” he said.
