Rising musician Mgcini Calvin Nhliziyo, simply known as Calvin, could just be the next best thing to happen in the local hip-hop sector.

The Bulawayo-based rapper is flying high locally as well as in South Africa, thanks to his latest hit track “Z’khupani” that features Casper Nyovest.

The song that is enjoying heavy rotation in South Africa has earned him a tour in the neighbouring country in the next two weeks.

“Because Casper helped to propel the song’s success many people there (South Africa) want to know who he is. So the tour will see him also conducting radio and television interviews,” said Calvin’s manager Nonkululeko “Zaza” Ndlovu.

While Casper Nyovest’s endorsement intensified Calvin’s dominance, his latest project “DatLuveveBoy” has been receiving rave reviews locally.

In fact, Calvin has been a major force in Bulawayo where he established himself as a producer until recently when he decided to release his own songs.

The 29-year old takes pride in 19 projects under his belt and these include mixtapes, singles, albums and EPs.

Speaking on the musical merger, Zaza said the two artistes had taken aantage of technology to make music together. The two artistes actually sent each other beats and recordings online to come up with the hit track in question.

“The whole production was done by Calvin and Casper was amazed by the song when he heard it during his first visit to Harare a few weeks ago. He contacted Calvin through twitter saying he wanted to be part of the song,” she said.

The two artistes also had the privilege of collaborating on stage in Bulawayo a month ago and this is just the beginning, according to the manager.

It also interesting to know that, the rising star has assembled an all ladies team that consists of deejay That Girl Noma, road manager Patience Phiri together with Zaza.

Calvin is also pushing his clothing lines “Grade Street” that will likely appear in “Z’khupani” video that will be shot in South Africa.
