A CHIVI businessman lost over $40,000 to robbers who gained access to his property by impersonating police officers, the ZRP has confirmed.

Masvingo provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Nkululeko Nduna, said the robbers went to Wellington Mapuvire’s house around 6 pm clad in police uniforms and met the businessman’s gardener.

They produced pistols and ordered the gardener to open the gates before force-marching everyone at the house into a single room.

“One of the robbers remained at the gate waiting for Mapuvire to return home and when he returned in the company of his wife around 7.30pm they were also forced into the room were his employees were,” said Nduna.

The robbers then ordered everyone to surrender their belongings including cash and cell phones, tied their hands with cable wire before locking all of them up.

“The robbers then searched the house and found $40,000 in Mapuvire bedroom, took the money and they left,” said Nduna.

The police spokesman said a manhunt for the culprits is now underway.

He urged business people to desist from keeping large sums of money at home.
