Cargo Carriers International Hauliers (CCIH) recently achieved International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) 9001:2008 Quality Management System certification status. ISO 9001:2008 is the international standard which defines the requirements of a Quality Management System.

The standard is designed to ensure the existence and maintenance of a management system that consistently delivers quality services and is focused on attaining customer satisfaction.

The attainment of this internationally recognised quality management standard is testament to our commitment to delivering a high level of service and to executing our mission and vision.

The road to ISO 9001:2008 certification for CCIH began in 2010 with the vision of Chief Executive Officer Rory McWade to raise the business to a world-class standard where it could compete in the Africa international arena to world international standards. The resulting transformation programme was built around the core principle that the company had to be able to “measure in order to manage”.

The first phase involved establishing formal structures and designing the systems required to provide management with the information necessary for effective decision-making.

The second phase involved identifying and documenting the core processes in each of the seven divisions that were critical to the company’s value chain and ultimately to customer satisfaction.

At this stage, the CEO sought external subject matter experts to complement the company’s internal skills and capabilities in the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Ryan Scott Associates International was engaged to collaborate with all employee levels at CCIH to document SOPs.

Dawson amp Hindmarsh was contracted to supply their project management services and, over a 12-month period, in the region of 300 SOPs were prepared. The long-term strategic importance of the SOPs was that they would form the foundation from which the ISO certification campaign could be launched.

The company’s SOPs are housed online in a software programme known as Quality, Process, Results (QPR). With the implementation support of the local QPR agents, Confluence Consultants, the programme has enabled wide employee access to SOPs and has become an invaluable training tool. Even more importantly, QPR made the achievement of an effective Quality Management System and therefore ISO certification possible.

The ISO certification programme was driven by the leadership of the CEO, the endorsement of management and immense employee buy-in. The programme kicked into gear with the engagement of an internal Quality Assurance Officer, ISO experts Fleet Consultants (Pvt) Ltd and the project management services of Dawson amp Hindmarsh.

The Standards Association of Zimbabwe (SAZ) was selected as the accreditation body. SAZ conducted both the Stage 1 Documentation Audit in November 2013 and the Stage 2 Compliance Audit in December 2013. The final Follow up Audit was concluded in February 2014 and Certification was officially awarded in April 2014.

The ZWS ISO 9001:2008 certificate was officially presented to CEO Rory McWade at a handover ceremony on May 15 this year. The event was attended by the SAZ Director for Quality Assurance, Mr Sebastian Zuze and Mr Godfrey Dube, SAZ Marketing Manager several invited guests and CCIH employees.

Congratulations to the management and staff of CCIH for the team work and commitment which made certification possible. CCIH would like to thank SAZ for their involvement in making our certification a reality.
