CHAPUNGU bounced back to winning ways with a 3-2 win over Triangle United in a premiership match at Ascot yesterday.

Charles Murisa, Courage Muzire and Gift Phiri’s goals outweighed Charles Makoto and Cabby Kamhapa’s late goals to ensure the home team collected maximum points.

The hosts came into the match desperate for a win having managed only two points in their previous five games with three losses and two draws.

Triangle came to Gweru with an imperious form, after they managed to avoid defeat in their previous six games with two league wins, three draws and a Cup win.

The outcome of yesterday’s match leaves the Airmen with 19 points from 16 games while the visitors remain on 17 points.

After the match, Chapungu Coach-John Nyikadzino who seemed to have forgotten the formula for winning was happy with the result.

“We played well and deserved to win. I am very happy for the boys,” said Nyikadzino.

Triangle coach Biggy Zuze was happy with the spirit shown by his charges though it was for a losing cause.

“The spirit is encouraging, scoring two goals after we had gone three down and the performance was wonderful,” said Zuze.

Murisa converted the penalty 20 minutes after Jimmy Tigere had handled in the box.

Seven minutes later, referee Maxwell Nyamhuri awarded the visitors a penalty but Tineyi Chitora’s effort crashed against the upright.

Ten minutes later, Muzire tapped in Blessed Mbavarira’s cross to give the airmen a two goal lead before the breather.

Twenty eight minutes after the breather, Phiri put the game beyond reach when he converted with barely his first contribution of the match after coming in as a substitute for Farai Manase.

Nine minutes before fulltime saw Makoto pulling one back with a low shot.

Moments before fulltime Kamhapa gave the match a nervy ending with his shot outside the box, further reducing the deficit.
