Gospel couple Pastor Charles and Olivia Charamba will combine with Alick Macheso and musicians from Chimbetu family – Allan, Tryson, Douglas and Suluman, for the commemoration of the late Naison Chimbetu at a show slated for Harare Gardens on April 6.

Charamba said although he was more attached to Simon Chimbetu (Naison’s brother), he respected the brothers for being the pioneers of dendera music. “I was more attached to Simon but I just have respect for them because they are the pioneers of dendera,” said Charamba.

The gospel couple has shown their respect to late musicians by performing at some of the commemorations held for secular musicians. Last year they participated at Tongai Moyo’s commemoration gig.

Naison died on March 6, 2005 and last year he was commemorated in a big way and that was the first show to unite the Chimbetu’s.

“Dr Nero” as Naison was fondly known was credited for his input on some of Simon’s songs. Simon and Naison took the industry by storm with their Marxist Brothers before parting ways. Naison formed G7 Commandos the group he lead up to his death. His son Tryson has taken over his father’s music heritage.
