CHICKEN Inn cemented their lead at the summit of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League with a 2-1 win over 10-man Chapungu at Ascot yesterday.

Second half strikes by Edmore Chirambadare and Danny Phiri outweighed the first half effort by Allen Tavarwisa.

The result means the GameCocks go to the league mini break as comfortable leaders with 29 points from 13 matches and six points above champions Dynamos.

Meanwhile, Chapungu’s rise from the ashes took another glitch with a second consecutive loss.

Chicken Inn coach Joey Antipas is however not getting too excited with his charges’ fine run.

“We are not talking about the title as yet it is too early, we have just played 13 matches. We are taking each game as it comes.

“It was a game of two halves, they controlled the first and we controlled the second.

“We played our normal game and I am happy with our performance, it is a good result for us,” said Antipas.

Losing coach John Nyikadzino blamed the officiating for the loss.

“We lost the game and I do not want to take anything away from Chicken Inn.

“I am not a bad loser and usually I do not want to comment about the officiating, but the officiating was questionable.

“The worrying thing is that Allen Basvi is a referee from Bulawayo and he takes charge of the game we play against a team from Bulawayo,” fumed Nyikadzno.

Tavarwisa reacted quickly after 25 minutes of action when he notched in the rebound beyond Elvis Chipezeze in goal for Chicken Inn.

After the breather the visitors came with renewed vigour and Tafadzwa Kutinyu was denied by the upright. Chirambadare equalised in the 57th minute when he tapped in a pass from Majika who had skillfully found his way past Collen Kwaramba.

With 16 minutes still to be played, the airmen were reduced to 10 when Blessing Zabula was shown a second yellow for pulling Mitchell Katsvairo.

Phiri’s long range beauty found its way past Roy Mazingi in goal for the host to give Chicken Inn a deserved win.
