A man will spend the next 10 months behind bars after he was convicted for stealing property worth $91 from his granny (74).

Mike Simango, 21, of Gaza Township, Chipinge, appeared before magistrate Vusumuzi Gapara facing charges of theft.

He pleaded guilty to the charge.

Gapara suspended one month on condition that Mike will repay his granny $26 before July 15.

Prosecutor, Witness Nyamundaya, told the court that on December 28, 2014 at around 8pm, Mike broke into Selina Simango’s house.

He took a DSTV decoder, a black and white pot, two kilogrammes of sugar, two litres of cooking oil, two kilogrammes of rice and then disappeared.

He then sold the decoder to one Linda Mlambo who was later arrested by Southerton Harare cops for possession of stolen property.

Mlambo indicated that she bought the decoder from Mike and this led his arrest.

The total value of stolen property was $91 but only $75 worth of it was recovered.
