MOSES Chunga has become the first coach in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League to be fired after he was relieved of his duties by Chiredzi FC after a string of poor results.

Chiredzi anchor the log standings with seven points gained from one away win at Bantu Rovers, four draws and eight losses which has left them facing a return journey to the Eastern Region Division One League.

A meeting convened in the Chiredzi on Monday and was attended by the team’s executive, led by Charles Muchatukwa and the political leadership of the Lowveld who decided it was time to show the colourful character the road.

Chunga, who has been calling himself a director of the team, did not attend the meeting and was not picking up his phone on Monday.

Chunga and the team’s executive have been at loggerheads over US$4,000 gate takings which he allegedly confiscated after a home match against Dynamos in May and last week fired another salvo at the executive accusing them of being clueless in football matters.

The coach however said the money was for the players. When Chiredzi hosted Hwange at Chishamiso two weeks ago, Chunga again attempted to get access to the cash but police intervened, club officials claim.
