A Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) operative was this week hauled before the Mutare magistrate courts facing charges of pointing a pistol at a security guard after the two had a misunderstanding.

Needmore Munongwa, 26, appeared before magistrate Sekai Chiwundura and is denying the charges.

He was remanded out of custody on $20 bail until April 10 when the trial resumes.

Prosecutor Douglas Matiure told the court that on March 22 around 0200hours, Munongwa went to a local night club intending to buy beer to take home.

Munongwa was told by Itai Kariwepiri who was guarding the main entrance that he should buy his beer from the 24 hour Superette and not from the night club.

This did not go down well with Munongwa who produced a CZ pistol serial number 145242 which was loaded with seven rounds, threatening to shoot Kariwepiri.

Matiure told the court that an alert Kariwepiri managed to grab Munongwa’s right hand which was holding the pistol and disarmed him.

The pistol was handed over to police officers who were at the night club.
