ZIMBABWE coach Trevor Phiri believes they have a good squad in camp ahead of the Pepsi International Cricket Council Africa Women Trophy. The tournament will be held in Benoni, South Africa, from Saturday.

Kenya, Namibia, African Invitational XI, Tanzania, South Africa, Uganda and Zimbabwe are expected to take part in the tourney.

The Zimbabwe women’s team entered their sixth day of a training camp yesterday.

“We have a good side and the girls have a lot of potential, we entered our sixth day today (yesterday) and all is good,” said Phiri.

“We are not going to have a challenge in selecting the final 14 to represent Zimbabwe.

“We had a match against Prince Edward School at the weekend to boost our preparations.

“We are hoping that we will do our best and make the nation proud.

“It will be good to win so that we can also qualify for the global qualifiers next year in July.”

Zimbabwe won the Africa qualifiers in 2012.

Captain Chipo Mugeri said she was confident of victory in Benoni.

“We are going to Benoni to win, I know it might be tough but we have been doing well during our training,” said Mugeri.

“The competition among the players is high because everyone wants to be in the final team.”

The final 14-member team will be named tomorrow.
