Nigeria, Thursday, formally registered her displeasure and protested over comments credited to Mugabe where he implied that corruption is synonymous to Nigerians.

Mugabe during a luncheon hosted to mark his 90th birthday in March had reportedly said Zimbabweans are behaving like Nigerians who have to be bribed for every service.

“Are we now like Nigeria where you have to reach into your pocket to get anything done? You see, we used to go to Nigeria and every time we went there, we had to carry extra cash in our pockets to corruptly pay for everything. You get in a plane in Nigeria and you sit there and the crew keeps dilly dallying without taking off as they wait for you to pay them to fly the plane,” he reportedly said, eliciting huge laughter from the audience.

But the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Martin Uhomoihbi at a meeting with the Zimbabwean Head of ChanceryCounselor, Stanley Kunjeku, in Abuja, described the comments as “vitriolic and denigrating on Nigeria.
