THE Zimbabwe women’s cricket team are expected to leave the country this morning to take part in the Pepsi International Cricket Council Africa Women Trophy in Benoni, South Africa.Team manager Caroline Nyamande addressed the team which will be captained by Chipo Mugeri at their final training session yesterday.

“It has not been easy for you girls during the preparations, the training sessions have been very tough, but we are glad that you all did well,” said Nyamande.

“We are going to be playing against top players in different teams and, therefore, I urge you to practice what you have learnt during the camp.

“Everything went well in our preparations and, therefore, we have a good chance of doing well, each match is important to us.”

Mugeri, Precious Marange, Esther Mbofana and Sharne Meyers are some of the influential players in the side.

Zimbabwe coach Trevor Phiri is confident the team will do well.

“I am confident the girls will win. We have more all rounders, which is very good for the side. We have no injuries and we are all glad to go and represent our nation,” said Phiri.

The team last won the Africa Qualifiers in 2012.

The tournament will have two tables, one to determine the winners, and the other one to decide the country to qualify for the global qualifiers set for July in Thailand next year.
