AFTER receiving the Team of the Year award this week at the Annual National Sports Awards in Harare, Martin Dzuwa believes it will inspire his team as they prepare for their tie against Bosnia and Herzegovina early next year.

The Davis Cup team was named Team of the Year at the annual awards after a successful campaign in Egypt in September that saw them earning the ticket to the Group II from the Africa Zone Group III after four years of trying.

The tie is set for Harare from March 6 to 8 and Tennis Zimbabwe have already rolled out a fund-raising campaign intended to raise $100 000 needed to successfully host the event.

Dzuwa, who was the non-playing captain for the team that included Takanyi Garanganga, Mark Fynn, Tinotenda Chanakira and Benjamin Lock, said they are happy with the award.

“It was great to win the award, but it would have been nice if the other guys were here although it was just me and Fynn.

“We are happy with the award we are really looking forward to next year. I hope we will come together and win the tie and the guys are ready.

“I was also nominated for the Coach of the Year award and I am happy to have been part of the nominees,” said Dzuwa.

However, the selectors committee is expected to convene early next year to come up with a team that will represent the nation.

“It will depend with their rankings next year. For every tie, the selectors have to choose a team and by mid-January the team should have been named.

“Each player will have their own schedule, but I think in the week before the tie all players will come here if they do not have a tight schedule.

“Those that have tight schedules will continue with their programmes, while those without commitments will come and train in order to adjust to the surface they will be using,” said Nhokwara.
