DYNAMOS coach Callisto Pasuwa seems to be fighting a losing battle to have all his players fit as midfielder Walter Mukanga has been ruled out of tomorrow’s Castle Lager Premiership clash against ZPC Kariba at the National Sports Stadium. Mukanga was not considered for selection after suffering a suspected bout of malaria during the week and joins a number of key players like Tawanda Muparati, Ocean Mushure and Clive Kawinga on the sidelines after the club’s doctors recommended he take a rest.

The former Chicken Inn and Triangle man arrived at the Glamour Boys at the beginning of the season and appears to have fitted well into the system playing alongside midfielder Stephen Alimenda.

However, coach Pasuwa yesterday said he had to drop him from his plans to allow him to recover fully.

Goalkeeper George Chigova was also being monitored after complaining of a hip injury which, however, did not look serious.

Pasuwa also confirmed that Masimba Mambare will be out for at least two months after damaging his knee during the Independence Cup semi-final clash against Harare City a fortnight ago.

Interestingly, Mambare was deemed by the referee to have dived during that match.

“Of all the players that we had at How Mine last week I think Walter will be the only one missing for this match because the doctors recommended that he be rested for two days during the week after falling ill.

“The others like Tawanda, Ocean and Clive are still out and George had light training, not because he is seriously injured but that we only want to manage the situation,” said Pasuwa.

DeMbare, who are usually slow at take-off, made a positive start in defence of their title last week when they edged How Mine 1-0 away at Barbourfields. The Harare giants are hoping to continue with their form but Pasuwa is still worried by his finishing which has been a big letdown.

Their opponents ZPC Kariba are looking confident after holding giants CAPS United to a 1-1 draw in their season opener at Gwanzura last week.

“ZPC Kariba are only new in name but most of their players and the coach Saul Chaminuka have rich Premiership experience. So their complexion is that of a team that has been playing in the Premiership.

“Again if you look at our history, it’s these so-called small teams that we usually struggle with so we are trying to psyche the boys up so that they don’t underrate them.

“We need to have the right approach,” said Pasuwa.

Dynamos will be looking up to their top performers like Stephen Alimenda, Ronald Chitiyo and Sydney Linyama while Devon Chafa is set to claim a starting place tomorrow to replace the injured Mukanga.

Chaminuka reported a clean bill of health and is likely to make a few changes, if any, to the team that started against CAPS United last week.

The Premiership newboys have a competitive side built around some experienced players like Limited Chikafa, Norman Togara, Pride Tafirenyika, Caleb Masocha, David Rediyoni, Tawanda Munyanduri, Ephraim Mwinga and Peter Muzondo.

Chaminuka happily embraces the underdog tag and has challenged his players to raise their game and cause an upset as Dynamos begin their life at their new National Sports Stadium home this season.

“This is a David and Goliath battle of some sort because we are playing a team that has won the title in the last three seasons, consecutively, yet we have just been promoted,” said Chaminuka.

“I can’t really say we are teams of the same level and moreover Dynamos are also enjoying the aantage of playing at home.

So we have to do our best.

“It’s a game we need to play with spirit, maintaining the highest level of concentration.

“As I have said before we are working on our fitness in the first month and I am happy with the way we played against CAPS United last week.

“We look to improve on that, though, and my guys have to prove they deserve to play in the Premiership.”
