THE Zimbabwean pastors who vanished from the scene five years ago following damaging allegations that they practised Satanism are back on the prowl.

Mathias and Mildred Madzivanzira, who run the Mathias and Mildred Ministries, a Pentecostal religious group, were popular between 2005 and 2009 for their “miracle healing”.

But their fame plummeted after the pastor is said to have allegedly shot and killed their domestic worker under mysterious circumstances.

Unconfirmed reports said the clergyman shot and killed the domestic worker after she saw a snake vomiting money in the house in a bizarre act associated with Satanism.

Over the past two weeks, the Mathias and Mildred Ministries has been posting aerts in local newspapers inviting the faithful to attend revival services at their Rock Chapel Assembly in Zimre Park near Ruwa.

The services are being conducted under the title, “The truth shall swallow the false – this is your great time for a miracle”.

The aerts are making outlandish claims that “the dumb and mute talk, the lame walk, the deaf hear and the blind see”.

Zimbabwe which is going through a debilitating economic and political crisis has of late seen a rise in Pentecostal churches that promise instant miracles to the long-suffering Zimbabweans.

The Pentecostal movement’s gospel of prosperity has found ready takers among the majority of Zimbabweans who are seeking redemption from the current crisis.

The new Pentecostal pastors are not only charismatic but suave.

Among these pastors are Emmanuel Makandiwa of the United Family International Church (UFIC), Walter Magaya of Prophet Healing Deliverance (PHD) and Hubert Angle of the Spirit Embassy Church.

Under their leadership, the Church has become a new battleground not just to win souls but to chart a new path of economic liberation through miracles.

Every Sunday, congregants are told to “seed” their money the more you “seed”, the more your blessings.

The churches have come up with brilliant marketing plans with the sale of holy “anointing oil” which has been a hit with parishioners.

The oil is going for one United States dollar a bottle with the promise that the oil will open the doors to a “new, healthy, prosperous life”.

Pastor Magaya launched his “anointing oil” three weeks ago with close to 120,000 followers buying the product at his service.

Zimbabwe’s feared anti-riot police had to be called in to maintain order after rowdy crowds jostled to get the product.
