At least seven drummers from different musical groups will converge for the Drum Festival that will held at the Book Cafe this month. It will be the second edition of the festival that was held in 2013 at the same venue. Due to financial constrains the festival could not take place last year. This year’s edition of the festival will see Carlton Muparutsa, Obert Gomba, Simba Dembedza, Denis Mushaishi, Praymore Dzuwa, Ronald Mdhuli, Prince Dzuwa and Agrippa Shadaya performing.

Muparutsa who is Suluman Chimbetu drummer is the coordinator of the event. He said this year’s event will be bigger and greater.

“We hosted the inaugural event in 2013 and it was successful. A lot is expected on the event as top drummers are expected to perform,” he said.

He said on the day they will start with solo performances showcasing their different skills.

“We have drummers who work with different musicians so we need them to showcase their talents to the audience,” he said.

After solo performance they will all go on stage for an impromptu joint performance. Guest artistes who include Victor Kunonga and Pah Chihera among others will join on the unrehearsed performance.

“We have artists who will grace the event to spice it up,” said Muparutsa.

He said they were aiming to match standards of other festivals that have been held around the globe.

“I believe Zimbabwe is full of talent and we have to unearth it and prove to the World that we have the expertise,” he said.

He said they want to make the event an annual show.

“We might face financial problems but our wish is to make the event an annual gig. We also have plans to take it to other parts of the country,” said Muparutsa.
