IT WAS nothing much to write home about, but Dynamos are known to grind results from nothing and on Sunday, they did just that to beat Caps United and sail through to the last four of the Net One One Wallet Cup at the National Sports Stadium.

And with eight minutes left to play Simba Sithole – in his only contribution in the match – found some space on the left and squared the ball into the box and Rodreck Mutuma met it first time to send Dynamos fans into raptures.

Clearly elated at scoring in the Harare Derby, Mutuma wheeled away and took off his shirt earning an unnecessary yellow card. In fact, he could have scored two but Caps United goalkeeper Jorum Muchambo saved the ball on the line after Mutuma had headed an Ocean Mushure free kick.

From a vantage position, the ball seemed to have crossed the line, but the referee was not moved by the Dynamos appeals.

Caps tried to fight back but Themba Ndlovu stood firm in the Dynamos defence, clearing all danger in the box.

Full of praise for his striker … Dynamos coach Calisto Pasuwa

Dynamos coach Callisto Pasuwa praised Mutuma for his resilience.

“He is one guy who is always in the box and when the cross came in he was there, he always tries and his not afraid to make mistakes. That is one of his strengths,” Pasuwa said in his post-match conference.

Caps boss Taurai Mangwiro conceded defeat.

“We went to sleep in the dying minutes and they punished us. But overall we did well, we took the game to them but it was just not our day.”

The two teams clash again on Sunday, this time in the Castle Premier Soccer League after drawing 1-1 in last weekend’s 71st Harare Derby at the same venue.

Dynamos now join How Mine, who knocked out Highlanders on Saturday, Triangle, conquerors of Harare City and Chicken Inn who beat FC Platinum, in the last four whose draw would be conducted next week.

Winners of the competition will get $80 000, losing finalists $50 000, semi-finalists $30 0000 each while the four teams that lost this weekend will get $20 000 each.
