DEFENDING champions Dynamos made it two wins in two games as they edged Chapungu 1-0 in a premier soccer league tie at Ascot in Gweru on Saturday.

Ronald Chitiyo scored the solitary goal of the game as dynamos ensured a perfect start to the new season.

Saturday’s win comes after the Harare side thumped Buffaloes 3-0 at the National Sports Stadium last Saturday.

Chitiyo scored in the 15th minute, heading home a corner kick from Ocean Mushure. Simba Nhivi could have doubled Dynamos’ lead in 43rd minute but had his effort ruled out for off side.

After the break the champions coasted to victory with little trouble from the home side.

“The guys worked hard for this win, it wasn’t easy,” said Dynamos coach David Mandigora.

“Chapungu played very well and we were very lucky to snatch the three points. I think I’m the chosen one against Chapungu with the background that we last won in Ascot back in 2008 when I was Dynamos coach.

“We defended very well and the guys are working hard and we hope to keep on like that. Simba Nhivi is regaining his form and it’s good for him as a player as he is improving by each passing day.

“The Premiership is not going to be easy and we are taking every game seriously and the matches that we have played so far has been difficult. There is too much competition.”

Chapungu coach, John Nyikadzino, blamed a lapse in concentration for the defeat.

“We lost concentration in the 15th minute when Dynamos got a corner kick and we were punished,” he said.

“Generally, the game was evenly balanced but the complexion of the game changed when Maxwell Mavuto was injured. In terms of scoring we have not scored for 180 minutes and we need to work on that because we need to start scoring goals.”
