A 19 year old teenager was last week electrocuted to death while he was trying to steal a ZESA Holdings overhead copper cable line at Valley of Kings in Penhalonga near Mutare.

The body of Thanx Mawere, a local resident of Tara farm, was found lying on the ground at Warnharm farm by ZESA employees who were tracing a fault on Tuesday.

The workers discovered a copper conductor which was cut off with one side hanging from the pole near the corpse.

Manicaland police spokesperson, Inspector Enock Chishiri confirmed the incident.

He said the body had a black colour on the face, hands and legs. This was believed to be severe burns sustained during the theft.

Chishiri said the deceased is suspected to have been in company of other accomplices who fled from the scene after the incident.

“The body was conveyed to Mutare Provincial hospital mortuary and investigations are still in progress,” said Chishiri.

He added: “Members of the public must desist from tempering with power cables as they risk losing their lives as well as prosecution.”
