Footballer cum-gospel musician Richard Nhika is slowly finding his footing in the music industry as he now has an album to his name.

The new release, an 8-track album, is titled “Sungano” and has songs such as “Mufudzi Akanaka”, which features veteran gospel musician Pastor Lawrence Haisa as well as “Kunamata Kwanhasi” which features Peter Muparutsa.

Nhika, who began seriously looking into music as a career path after suffering persistent ankle injuries while playing soccer under Black Rhinos Football Club, says he gives credit to God for giving him a way to spread the good Word.

“I was not born a Christian but a series of misfortunes made me realise that the life I was living would take me nowhere.

“I was, however, not even aware of my singing capabilities up until the time I left football for good.

“It was difficult in the early stages to come up with a song and moreso to write a song that was theologically sound but with the help of my pastor, all now is water under the bridge as I am using music to spread the good Word with ease,” said Nhika.

The “Mufudzi Akanaka” singer, who at some point worked with artistes such as the late Sam Mtukudzi, Jonathan Mugazi and others said it was always a privilege to work with artistes who have acquired experience over time.

“I’m humbled by seasoned artistes who agree to work with upcoming musicians as that contributes to the development of not only their careers but the music sector at large.

“For me, special mention goes to Pastor Haisa and Peter Muparutsa, who have helped me immensely on this new album,” said the musician.

Nhika is also at an aanced stage in shooting videos for the new album and is eyeing the end of May for the release of the D.

Meanwhile, the musician, who is poised to attain a theology degree at Living Waters Theological College by December, has started light training hinting his desire to return to playing football.
