A 22-YEAR-OLD man from Silobela died after being struck on the head with an axe by his 17-year-old cousin in a fight over a cigarette. Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Joel Goko said the incident took place on March 23 at around 7pm. Busisani Moyo of Mbuyavo Village under Chief Malisa was allegedly struck on the head by his cousin (name withheld) in a dispute over a cigarette.

Moyo was with three relatives – Callington, Ocean Moyo and the 17-year-old – near Donza 2 Business Centre when he asked for a cigarette from the teenager.

It is alleged that the boy aised Busisani that he did not have the cigarette.

This did not go down well with Busisani who subsequently slapped him twice on his left cheek, Insp Goko said.

He said the angry teen rushed home and sharpened an axe, which he brought back to the business centre.

“The suspect went on to strike Busisani once on the head and he collapsed and fell unconscious while bleeding profusely,” said Insp Goko.

“Callington and Ocean went and informed the now deceased’s father who rushed him to Kwekwe District Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.”

The matter was reported to police leading to the boy’s arrest.
