A 32-year-old man allegedly stole a police uniform before teaming up with his friends to kidnap his son at gunpoint from his ex-wife’s house.

Engelbert Kwangware and Givemore Katiyo appeared before Mbare magistrate Mr Stanford Mambanje charged with three counts of kidnapping, one of impersonating a police officer, one of theft and another one of pointing a firearm.

They both denied the allegations and were remanded in custody to today.

The prosecutor, Mr Lawrence Gangarahwe, alleged that on April 29 this year the pair, in the company of three others still at large, went to Beaulah Mashinge’s house.

The court heard that Kwangware was wearing a ZRP uniform pair of trousers while Katiyo wore a complete police uniform.

It is the State’s case that upon arrival, Kwangware ordered Katiyo to handcuff one John Marinda while he assaulted him.

Mashinge was called by her son from her neighbour’s house and on arrival, she inquired with the pair what was going on, it is alleged.

The court heard that she was assaulted by the pair before they confiscated her mobile phone.

The pair reportedly dragged Marinda and Mashinge, together with Mashinge’s son, Tinotenda, into a Toyota FunCargo and taken to Ushewokunze housing scheme where Kwangware produced a pistol and pointed it at Marinda while threatening to kill him.

The court heard that the pair then took Tinotenda without his mother’s consent and went back to Mashinge’s house where they took a television set and a car battery.

Kwangware was arrested days later and took the police to Matapi flats in Mbare where Tinotenda was being kept.
