ZIMBABWE Rugby Union (ZRU) will this week hold interviews for the vacant position of senior rugby team manager. Five candidates are believed to have shown interest in the position that fell vacant following the resignation of Losson Mutongwiza after allegations of racism arose.

The candidates who have shown an interest in the post are expected to be interviewed by a committee comprising Judith Chiyangwa, Donald Mangenje, Aaron Jani and Liam Middleton. However, Mangenje will not be part of the interviewing team as he has commitments elsewhere.

The interviewing panel will then make recommendations to the ZRU Executive Committee which will then make the final decision. ZRU executive vice-president Colleen De Jonge refused to divulge the names of the candidates, but is certain that the position will be filled before the tour to South Africa next month.

“I cannot give you the names of the candidates who have applied for the position at the moment, but can only tell you that five people will be interviewed for the post this Wednesday,” he said. “The appointment will be over the World Cup qualifying process and is subject to review.”

De Jong said the successful candidate will be in charge of Zimbabwe’s tour to South Africa for a triangular series against Limpopo Blue Bulls, a Bulls Development XV and Valke. The Sables will then be involved in the 2015 Rugby World Cup qualification tournament involving hosts Madagascar, Namibia and Kenya.

The winner will automatically take Africa’s sole qualification slot at the World Cup in England next year.
