ARSENAL forward Olivier Giroud is set to be one of the major stars being lined up for Harlington Shereni’s Testimonial Match on June 27. Giroud is a French international and once played in Ligue 1 alongside the former Zimbabwe international.

According to the organisers of the match, the tie is meant to raise funds towards the establishment of a Harlington Shereni High Performance Centre of Football.

The 26-year-old-Giroud began his career at Grenoble in Ligue 2 in his native France before joining Tours in 2008 and finished as the Golden Boot winner with 21 goals.

He moved to Ligue 1 side Montpellier and then joined French manager Arsene Wenger in 2012 at Gunners where he scored one of their goals in their FA Cup victory over Aston Villa last month.

Besides Giroud, Shereni is also aiming to bring El Hadji Diouf of Senegal and South Africa’s Steven Piennar for the match set for the National Sports Stadium.

Diouf came to Zimbabwe in May 2012 when former Zimbabwe captain Mwaruwari hosted a testimonial match that also featured Nigeria’s Nwankwo Kanu and DRC’s Lomana Lua Lua.

Zimbabwean legend Peter Ndlovu and Norman Mapeza also featured in the game where Benjani played for the Warriors and then joined his friends.

Also being lined up for the Shereni match is Oumar Dieng, Bakari Sagna and Emmanuel Eboueacute.

The organisers will hold a media briefing today.
