WARRIORS head coach Ian Gorowa is expected to take some time off his demanding schedule to grace the Hammer amp Tongues St George’s Invitational Under-20 Soccer Tournament this afternoon. Gorowa is busy plotting how his troops can overturn the 1-0 defeat suffered against Tanzania in Dar es Salaam two weeks ago. Zimbabwe will play the Taifa Stars at the National Sports Stadium tomorrow afternoon.

However, despite the demanding task at hand, Gorowa is scheduled to make an appearance at the schools tournament.

“The tournament is being held over two days and we have invited Ian Gorowa to come and officially make a presentation.

“Because the Warriors are in camp, he is not able to attend our matches but he could find time to come tomorrow (today),” said Bright Dzuda, the teacher-in-charge of football at St George’s College.

The tournament started yesterday with 20 schools clashing in the preliminary round-robin matches and the event will reach its climax today.

“We have four groups of five teams each. The top two teams in each pool will proceed to the quarter-finals and then the semis,” said Dzuda.

Dzuda said defending champions Prince Edward, Churchill, Peterhouse, Mufakose, Allan Wilson, Seke, St George’s, Maranatha, Cornway, Christian Brothers’ College, Gateway, St John’s and Goromonzi are part of the invited teams.

“The sponsors are aiming to develop football as much as possible and this is why we have selected schools from former Group A, the high-density and mission schools,” said Dziva.
