A Harare man who stole his father’s gun before being involved in an attempted robbery case was last week freed on $100 bail. David Takunda Tsikayi (26) of 5515 Zone 6 Hopley Farm, Waterfalls, is accused of theft of a firearm.

On a separate court record, Tsikayi and his two friends, Sambulelo Ndlovu and Batsirai Chingosho, are being charged with attempted robbery and unlawful possession of a firearm.

The trio has since been granted bail on the attempted robbery and unlawful possession of a firearm case, but Tsikayi was still being held in remand prison for theft.

On Thursday, the High Court ordered the release of Tsikayi after a successful application by his lawyer Mr Lucky Mauwa of Mauwa and Associates.

According to State papers, Tsikayi stole his father’s gun in November last year.

On the day in question, Tsikayi’s father secured his SM pistol (serial number 31329) in a gun cabinet and locked it.

Tsikayi then stole the cabinet keys and unlocked it before taking away the weapon.

His father discovered the theft of the gun on December 14 last year.

He made a report to the police and investigations commenced.

Police later recovered the pistol from Ndlovu and further investigations revealed that Tsikayi was the source of the weapon.

It is also the prosecution’s case that Tsikayi and his two friends on December 24 last year, attempted to rob Mr Munetsi Chagadama of his Honda Fit in Highfield, Harare, using the pistol.
