TWO workers employed by the Midlands Regency Casino have been arraigned before Gweru courts facing allegations of stealing over $8 000 from their employer.

The two, Garikai Mugabe (31) and Levy Makoni of Athlone and Mkoba 7 suburbs in Gweru, allegedly stole $8 695 from the casino’s safe in October this year.

Mugabe and Makoni appeared before Gweru magistrate, Tendai Madanhir and were remanded to the 16th December for trial.

The court heard that on the 26th October 2014, Mugabe and Makoni were on duty when Midlands Regency Casino was closed just after midnight. The co-accused compiled the day’s takings and deposited $8 695 in the money safe box before locking it and leaving to their respective homes.

But on the same day, at around 1700 hours, Mugabe and Makoni reported for duty again and allegedly went to the safe box where they stole the money, it is alleged.

After taking the loot the two phoned the company’s general manger in Harare informing him that money had been stolen from the safe box.

A report was made to the police who attended the scene and concluded that there were no signs of a break-in at the casino leading to the arrest of the accused persons.
