A 24 YEAR-OLD illegal gold panner from Lower Gweru was last week arraigned before the courts on allegations of killing a colleague after a misunderstanding over a cap.

Misheck Sibanda from St Faith in Lower Gweru had an altercation with Bhekimpilo Sibanda over a cap and hit him with a stick on the chest leading to the latter’s death.

Sibanda appeared before Gweru magistrate, Sharon Rukafa Friday charged with murder charges and was remanded to the 11th June.

Allegations are that on the 12th September last year, Sibanda was drinking beer with other patrons at Fuyane bottle store in Lower Gweru when approached Bhekimpilo accusing him of wearing his hat.

In the heat of the argument Sibanda took a stick he used for gold panning and assaulted Bhekimpilo once on the chest.

Bhekimpilo later succumbed to the assault injuries.

A report was made to the police leading Sibanda’s subsequent arrest.
