HIGHLANDERS are opting for a local, cheaper coach due to budgetary constraints with indications that an appointment will likely be made before Christmas.

Former Zimbabwe Saints coach Bongani Mafu, a brother to former Warriors midfielder Ronald ‘Gidiza’ Sibanda, has been tipped for the hot seat to replace Kelvin Kaindu.

Bosso sponsors BancABC have cut down on funding to the club and Dynamos who appointed David Mandigora on Thursday, after the bank was taken over by Atlas Mara.

Highlanders had intended to appoint Englishman Desmond Bulpin on $4,000 monthly salary with Mafu as his understudy.

Bosso boss Peter Dube, who is seeking re-election next month, said: “We

have to take care of our budgetary needs …

“… but that doesn’t mean we have appointed a coach but we will have one by Christmas so that he puts his house in order as quickly as possible.”
