TWO headmen are suing flamboyant businessman and Zanu PF central committee member Phillip Chiyangwa for $500 000 as damages for assaulting the two in full view of party supporters and villagers.

Aleck Munhava and Morgan Gora are demanding a total of $500 000 being damages for pain and suffering and loss of dignity as a result of the assault.

The amount also represents current and future medical and counselling expenses.

According to papers in possession of Nezimbabwe.com, the headmen’s lawyer Webster Jiti said his clients were assaulted on the 26th of April at Nyamhunga primary school by Chiyangwa.

The assault is said to have occurred at a campaign meeting which had been convened by party secretary for administration, Ignatius Chombo. In attendance were top Zanu PF members, all village headmen from Hurungwe district and other party supporters.

According to the papers, Chiyangwa assaulted the two with open palms and clenched fists and kicked them while “they lay helpless on the ground”.

“This was done in full view of all people who were in attendance when you had finished assaulting them our clients inform us that you handed them over to the local youths who were present and you instructed them to further discipline them”

As a result, according to the papers, Munhava sustained severe injuries on the head, a fractured tooth and bruises all over the body.

He also lost his wallet which had identification documents and cash amounting to $185.

He further lost his spectacles valued at $20 and his jacket, valued at $35, was also torn in the process.

Munhava is also said to have wondered in the forest for two days as he was afraid to go home.

His colleague, Gora, sustained injuries on the back, chest and bruises and he spent two days and two nights hiding in the bush.

Jiti said Chiyangwa’s conduct in assaulting the duo was wrongful and illegal as he had no lawful right to assault the two village elders.

“In fact his conduct smacks of the highest disrespect ever to be visited on the office on a traditional healer who has so much responsibility towards the preservation of cultural, customary and traditional values of the society at large”.

Both village heads are demanding an amount of $250 000 each.
