Jet is spreading its footprint in the country with the latest branch being the Chitungwiza Town Centre shop which opened its doors yesterday. Launched with a road show on Thursday and a media aertising blitz, the opening was gratifyingly well-subscribed by residents of the dormitory town welcoming the new shop as they rushed to grab a few items.

With prices starting at US$2.50 for children’s items and US$5 for adults, most of those who came in were able to grab something.

Jet is a South African brand for low cost and high quality cash sales. The chain is owned by Edgars Stores Limited and the first branch was opened in the CBD along the

First Street Mall in the space that used to house Express Stores, a brand owned by the same group and which served the same target market.

A lady shopper who refused to be identified said that she is happy to see Jet in the town:

“I am glad that people have realised that Chitungwiza is a good place to do business. We have OK here at the Town Centre and now we have Jet. I hope other big brands will follow suit because I tell you, there are people with money to spend in this town but we are often forced to travel all the way to Harare.”
