THE Zimbabwe junior team staged a recovery in the second round of the All-Africa Junior Golf Championships in Lusaka, Zambia, yesterday.

The local players had a slow start after the first round at Chainama Hills Golf Club in Lusaka where 12 countries are taking part. Zimbabwe were fifth after the first round but moved into first place yesterday, two points ahead of South Africa.

Stuart Krog and Kiren Vincent both shot one-under-par 71 yesterday.

Justin Kersten shot a seven-over-par 79 to bring the overall counting scores of Zimbabwe to 221 while South Africa shot 223.

Phillip Tshuma, the coach, said he was impressed by the team’s fighting spirit.

Other countries taking part are Tunisia, Reunion, Uganda, Malawi, Namibia, Botswana, Mauritius, Kenya and Swaziland. Zimbabwe is represented by Krog, Vincent, Kersten and Jack Allard.

The two leading countries of the tournament will be going to Japan in June for the Toyota World Golf Challenge.
