Students at King George VI School and the Centre for Disabled Children in Bulawayo have launched a compilation of short stories and poems.

The book is titled Small Friends and other stories and poems and was published by Bulawayo-based Amabooks. It carries 35 short stories and poems all written by children living with disabilities.

The launch of the book at the weekend was officiated by Jillian Bonnardeaux, an assistant public officer at United States Embassy. Some of the stories and poems tell the stories of children’s lives and some come straight from their imagination.

The title of the book was drawn from a story by Marvellous Mbulo which describes a magical day in the fields when he was an infant.

It was published with funding from the United States Embassy through the President’s Emergency Plan for Aids Relief.
