Zimbabwe chiefs’ council president Chief Fortune Charumbira has castigated some Zanu-PF legislators here for abandoning their constituencies.

Addressing Zanu-PF supporters and political leaders at belated celebrations for the party’s victory in last year’s elections, Chief Charumbira said voters elected MPs to serve them.

“Leaders are elected into office to serve and represent the people, but we have situations where some Members of Parliament do not go back to the people once they are voted into power. That practice must stop. We expect our legislators to be always there for the people,”he said.

Chief Charumbira decried factionalism within Zanu-PF in Masvingo and called for unity of purpose. “My appeal to leaders in Masvingo is that please let us support those who would have been chosen to lead us. We should not spend our time fighting. Let us support each and develop our province. We should shun factionalism. I am proud to say that I do not have any faction. My level is above that,” he said.
