DAVIS Cup player Benjamin Lock is expected to sail past his opponent Samuel Bothwell of Ireland with ease in the International Tennis Federation Zimbabwe F1 Futures Tournament at Harare Sports Club this morning.

Lock heads into the tournament with a spring in his step after he won the Mozambique F1 Futures singles title in Maputo recently. He recorded the sensational win after outclassing United States’ golfer William Bushamuka 6-4, 6-4. Lock, who has a world ranking of 1 218, is the only local player who qualifies automatically for the main draw of the tournament. Arthur Surreaux of France, the second best player at number 568, said he was looking forward to the event.

“It will be a bit difficult but I am looking forward to the game and I have since adjusted to the weather conditions. I am expecting to go all the way and leave a mark on the event,” said Surreaux. Portugal’s Vasco Mensurado believes there will be a lot of competition and his South African opponents will not be easy to beat.

“I am ready for the match and I hope I will do well. This is my second time coming to Southern Africa so the weather will not be an issue,” Mensurado said.
