POLICE in Manicaland province’s Honde Valley area are investigating the mysterious death of a 60-year-old man whose headless body was found lying some metres from his head, parts of whose flesh had been bitten off by dogs.

Manicaland police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Luxon Chananda said Tobias Mupotsopotsi’s decomposing body was found some 800 metres from his homestead in Munyuki village, under Chief Mutasa in Honde Valley.

Chananda said the body was found under a tree.

He however refused to commit himself to any immediate conclusions saying police were now investigating the cause of the man’s death.

“Police attended the scene where a headless corpse was found. It was a 60-year-old man. The corpse was in an aanced state of decomposition,” said Chananda, adding that “police are suspecting that dogs could have eaten the head”.

He said the body was discovered by two villagers, Douglas Matiki (20) and Tecla Maputo (41) of the same village who were walking along a path.

They informed the deceased brother, Kilean Mupotsopotsi (53) who went to the scene and positively identified the corpse as that of his brother.

A report was made to the police who attended the scene.
