AN enraged Chimanimani man hacked and seriously wounded his wife with a machete before hanging himself following a dispute on how to discipline their children.

Manicaland police confirmed the incident which occurred last Wednesday.

According to the cops, on the fatal day John Sibindi, 60, of Saziya under Chief Muusha and his wife Chipo Mangezimana, 46, went into their bedroom around 8pm to discuss the behaviour of their children.

Sibindi is said to have initially accused his wife of sympathising with the children whenever he tried to discipline them for wrongdoing.

He further accused his wife of dividing the family through her interference.

While in the bedroom, the couple failed to come to an understanding and started trading insults.

Sibindi reportedly lost his temper, grabbed a machete which was in the room and struck his wife all over her body several times, ignoring her pleas for mercy.

The couple’s 19 year-old son, Mathew, ran to his mother’s rescue and found her with deep cuts all over the body and bleeding profusely.

The teen rushed his mother to Chipinge General Hospital leaving Sibindi alone at home.

Sensing danger, Sibindi decided to take his own life by hanging from the roof trusses of the bedroom.

His body was discovered by the son after he returned from the hospital.

Provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Enock Chishiri, urged member of the public to refrain from resorting to violence but seek professional counselling to resolve disputes.

“People should resolve their domestic disputes amicably rather than to resorting to violence,” said Chishiri.
