A 38-YEAR-OLD Victoria Falls man has been dragged to court after he allegedly assaulted his wife on Valentine’s Day, causing her death four days later.

Collen Munkuli of Victoria Falls was not asked to plead over the murder of wife Samantha Mpala when he appeared before local magistrate Sharon Rosemani on Friday.

Mpala died at Victoria Falls Hospital on February 18, a day after she was admitted with injuries all over the body.

Reasons for the assault are yet to be established as investigations continue. Police officers said they expect the probe to be completed early next month.

Munkuli was remanded in custody to March 6.

Prosecuting, Takunda Ndovorwi said Munkuli assaulted Mpala with a belt all over the body.

“On February 14 the accused was at home with his wife when he assaulted her with a belt all over the body,” said the prosecutor.

“She sustained a cut on the right eye and bruises on the hands while she also companied of stomach side pains and difficulty breathing.”

The State alleges that Munkuli did not bother to take his wife who was in pain to hospital until her condition deteriorated on February 17.

The woman was rushed to hospital where she was admitted but died the following morning due to injuries sustained as a result of the assault, the court was told.

Mpala was arrested on Thursday last week and charged with murder.
