A NYANGA man, who could not cope with testing positive for HIV, recently took his own life by drinking a pesticide.

According to police, Allois Nyamangodo, 43, of Mashava Village went to Mutare Provincial hospital on February 15 to seek medical attention.

He was aised to go for HIV testing and the results came out positive.

Nyamagodo went back home but around 3am, he left the bedroom he had been sleeping in with wife, Rhodia Kuwanga, 43 and went to the store room where he secretly consumed some pesticides.

The woman woke up and discovered that her husband was not in the room.

She conducted a search around the homestead and found him lying on the floor of the store room with two bottles of pesticides besides him.

Kuwanga ran and aised her in-laws who rushed to the scene.

The relatives tried to assist the now deceased by giving him milk to induce a quick vomiting but it was too late. His body was taken to Mutare Provincial hospital for post-mortem.

Manicaland police spokesperson, Inspector Enock Chishiri confirmed the incident, saying people should seek counselling whenever they encounter problems as opposed to taking their own lives.

“People should value their life. Testing positive for HIV is not the end of life,” said Chishiri.
