A 34 YEAR-OLD man from Lower Gweru escaped death by a whisker last week after a fellow imbiber struck him with a machete following an argument over opaque beer.

Israel Mpofu raised dust while dancing to music at a local bottle store, infuriating Nkululeko who complained he was spoiling his beer.

A quarrel ensued between the pair but they were restrained by other villagers at the pub.

Mpofu later left to go home using a foot path in a bushy area. He was ambushed by Dlodlo who smashed him with a machete in the face before fleeing from into the night leaving his victim unconscious by the side of the path.

After some time Mpofu regained consciousness and staggered to the nearest police base where he reported the attack and arrangements were made to rush him to hospital.

Deputy Midlands provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Ethel Mukwende confirmed the arrest of Dlodlo adding has since been charged with attempted murder.

Mukwende warned members of the public to desist from violence urging them to resolve their differences in an amicable manner.
