YOUNG Zimbabwean motocross sensation Daiyaan Manuel was over the weekend honoured for his achievements in the sport at the Motorsport South Africa Awards banquet in South Africa.

The prestigious function was held at Emperors Palace on Sunday and recognised the 2014 National Champions, National Colour recipients, Special and Lifetime Award, 2014 Official and Photographer of the Year.

Daiyaan, who came first in the 50cc class in the Monster Energy Super Cross in Pretoria and the South Africa national championships, was awarded the 2014 South African national motocross MX 50cc award in the junior category.

Speaking from South Africa yesterday Manuel, who travelled to the awards ceremony in the company of his father, said he was overwhelmed by the gesture.

“It took a lot of work and determination from me and my family to reach this year’s goal,” said Manuel.

“I would like to thank MSA for a great year and my family and sponsors for their continued support .

“I am excited for the upcoming last races of the year, the Summer Series, and I am looking forward to the year ahead on my 65cc.

“It will be really challenging and difficult with all the foreign riders so there will definitely be a bit of pressure but I am determined to go out there and give it my all.”

Preparations for the Summer Series to be held at Donnybrook are at an aanced stage with riders from five countries –South Africa, Botswana, Zambia, Kenya and Uganda — expected to take part.
